Use a calibrated contact thermocouple, or an infrared camera with documented emissivity and a suitable reference surface. Do not describe a case reading as LED junction temperature unless junction temperature was measured by a validated method. Continue warm-up until the laboratory's stability rule is met. One practical rule is three consecutive one-minute irradiance readings that differ by no more than 2%, while the recorded case temperature changes by no more than 1°C over five minutes. Step 4: Measure the reference point. After zero or baseline correction, take at least three readings at the specified center or reference position. Step 5: Map spatial uniformity. Use a 3 × 3 grid for routine screening: center, four mid-edge points, and four corner points. Use a 5 × 5 grid for product characterization, large panels, or visibly nonuniform sources. Mark the grid on the measurement plane, measure the center of each equal-area cell, keep distance and detector orientation unchanged, and record every point rather than only the highest value. For pulsed operation, use a detector and oscilloscope with sufficient bandwidth for the waveform, or clearly state when the radiometer reports a time average. Higher irradiance can deliver the same fluence faster, but it is not automatically more effective.
